Happy New Year – 2022!

Happy New Year – 2022!

2021 was once again a struggle for me creatively. Life and the second pandemic year just felt like they were constantly in the way. Hopefully I can get back into things this year.

So a quick recap of my year and goals for the new year.

Writing:

I did end up finishing the first draft of The Challenger (Book 2 of the Suri Series), but it still needs a lot of work before publishing.

I wrote a short humourous story about a risk assessor for a dark lord. You can read the first part on Wattpad – Nikki Moyes (@nikkimoyesauthor) – Wattpad . It’s complete at 10,000 words which is a bit short for a print book, so I haven’t decided what to do about publishing it yet. It may need a couple of other short stories to go with it.

I currently playing around with a another story story. This one is about a girl who gets a job looking after a haunted cemetery late at night. Still in progress.

And, for something different – I’ve written my first children’s book and am currently working with an illustrator. We hope it will be ready for publication around mid-year. It’s a fun picture book about how instead of putting pressure on kids to chose to be one thing when they grow up, they can do lots of different things. The drawings will be super cute.

Reading:

Last year I made the following goals for my reading:

  • 6 books that have been on my tbr pile since 2016 – read 5, DNFed 1
  • 6 books that have been on my tbr pile since 2017 – read 2, DNFed 2
  • 4 audiobooks – listened to 4
  • 1 non-fiction book – read 2
  • 2 books that aren’t YA fiction – (excluding the non-fiction and classics) read 4
  • 2 classics from the BBC 100 Must Read Books – read 2, DNFed 1

So I only missed one target despite only reading 20 books this year and DNFing another four books.

This year I will aim for at least another 20 books read.

  • 3 books that have been on my tbr pile since 2016 (currently 6 books)
  • 6 books that have been on my tbr pile since 2017 (currently 65 books)
  • 2 audiobooks (currently 4 on my phone)
  • 1 non-fiction book (I have a whole shelf full that I haven’t read yet)
  • 1 books that isn’t YA fiction (what I normally read)
  • 2 classics from the BBC 100 Must Read Books (I’ve been working my way through this list over the last couple of years)

How’s your year looking?
